To discuss the benefits of using a structured approach to developing the clinician-patient relationship.

Objectives:

• To demonstrate how to increase the uptake of care through relationship building

• To introduce Personal Care Programmes to cement patient commitment

• To show how to optimise treatment conversion, reduce the likelihood of incomplete treatment plans, and to future proof your appointment diary

Having graduated in 1985 I opted to go in to general practice after completing a year as a House Officer at Manchester Dental Hospital. By the age of 24 I had bought my first dental practice in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, and 18 months later set up a second. The next 33 years saw Carbis Bay Dental Care grow from a single surgery to a thriving 5 surgery practice with a reputation for being at the forefront of technology and innovation. I chose to sell the practice to Portman in 2021, and was appointed as their Regional Clinical Lead for the South West the year after. Following the merger with Dentex, I joined the PortmanDentex Central Clinical Team as a Clinician Engagement Lead, supporting colleagues within practices across the South West of England, whilst still working in practice 3 days a week. As a former practice owner and a practicing clinician I feel I am well placed to support colleagues through the day to day challenges faced in delivering quality dental care. I am also proud to be part of the Clinician Engagement Team through which wider support is provided to clinicians across practices nationally in order to enhance development and satisfaction.
