Description
Join Canal & River Trust Archivist John Benson for a training session on how to collect oral histories - including what to ask, how to use equiment and how oral histories are best stored and used.
This is intended for all volunteers on the Oral History Project - but anyone is welcome to book on this event (you don't have to be a volunteer with the Canal & River Trust).
As a result of this workshop, we will have decided on the themes for an Oral History Project collecting memories on the Pocklington Canal.
Ever wanted to gather in oral histories but not sure how to set about it? This workshop is for you. Canal & River Trust archivist John Benson will guide us through the subject and will include:
- The historical background to the discipline
- What it feels like to interview and be interviewed’
- Opportunities for listening
- ‘Do’s’ and ‘Don’ts’
- Copyright guidance
- Guidance on libel
- Suggestions on what to buy
- Guidance on storage, preservation and access
This is an opportunity to moderate practice in this field throughout Canal & River Trust.
