Description

Oral Instructions of Mahamudra

Weekend course at Heruka KMC with Kadam John

*This course follows a 2-week retreat from 5th January to deepen your understanding & experience.

Sat 8 - Sun 9 December 2018, 10am - 4pm

Mahamudra, or the union of great bliss and emptiness, has two parts: great bliss and emptiness.

In Highest Yoga Tantra great bliss is necessarily a bliss that arises through the melting of the drops inside the central channel due to the inner winds of the right and left channels entering, abiding and dissolving into the central channel through the force of meditation. Only Hightest Yoga Tantra practitioners and Buddhas experience such bliss.

The second part of this union, emptiness, was explained by Buddha in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras and, following Nagajuna's commentaries to the Perfection of Wisdom Sutras, Je Tsongkhapa explained clearly and in detail the meaning of emptiness.

These precious instructions were given to Je Tsongkhapa directly by Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. Since then they have been transmitted through a continuous unbroken lineage and are now held by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, who is the living lineage holder of these instructions.

Heruka KMC's Resident Teacher Kadam John McBretney, as one of Geshe-la's closest disciples, received this blessing transmission directly from Geshe-la and will pass on the transmission blessings at this weekend course.

“Eventually, through practising Mahamudra meditation we will be able to benefit each and every living being every day. There is no greater meaning than this.” - Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

This course is essential for those who plan to join the Union of Sutra and Tantra January Retreat.

Each session will include a combination of teachings and guided meditations with an opportunity to discuss during the break time.

Do I need to bring anything or wear anything special?

No. You can choose to sit on chairs, or cushions if you prefer to sit cross-legged. You don’t need to bring anything else with you, but some people like to take notes during the session, so feel free to bring a paper and pen.

What if I’m new to this?

Everyone is welcome to participate and will benefit both new and experienced people alike. Our reception staff will happily recommend some follow-on reading or classes after the course if you are interested.
