Orange Box & Working Wonders
Tue 10 May 2016, 17:30 – 19:00 BST
We have two charities coming together to hold this event which is to celebrate Working Wonders new office location as a tenant and partner of the Orange Box.
Both Working Wonders and Orange box are two fantastic charities in our local area, helping the next generation get the skills and experience needed, through gaining apprenticeships and work and also a fantastic safe place to express their talents.
WORKING WONDERS CHARITY
Working Wonders is a Calderdale based charity that supports young people (aged from 14 - 25) to help get them 'work ready' for the world of work and apprenticeships.
They provide practical support to help remove the barriers to work which may include bus fares, interview support / CV & Job applications, work clothes, DBS /CSCS costs, interview preparation and ongoing support in the work place.
They support businesses who are seeking to recruit apprentices enabling them to increase their workforce capacity and provide apprenticeships. Again practical support for small businesses on the process / paperwork and ongoing support is provided.
They also encourage the business community to fundraise to support the work of the Charity.
Orange Box young people’s centre grew directly out of Square Chapel’s outreach work with young people. The aim of the project was to support young musicians through forming a band, writing their first songs, making their first recording and playing their first gig; the theory being that they would then ‘graduate,’ freeing up space for new attendees. But people never left because there was nowhere else for them to rehearse that they felt safe. It wasn’t until we started asking more young people about this that we realised how great a need there was to develop facilities for young people in Halifax.
Orangebox is a state of the art centre for young people based in the heart of Halifax. The centre has been designed for young people, by young people, with facilities including: a café, roof top skate park, rehearsal rooms, recording studio, bouldering tunnel, performance spaces, dedicated art room, youth activities alongside conference/ meeting room hire.
The centre hosts a number of tenants which include, Project Challenge and Calderdale Council youth service.
Orangebox really is an exceptional project – it is a young people and culture led piece of regeneration – developed and delivered by a voluntary sector arts centre. It has been an enormous amount of work for everybody involved, but it has been tremendously exciting and rewarding.
