Orca Watch 2022 - Evening of Talks, live-streamed from the Pulteney Centre, Wick.
About this event
Orca Watch Online is back, bringing the excitement of this year’s Orca Watch. If you weren't able to join us in person for our evening of talks and films, you can still watch the event online at home, either live on the night, or up to the end of June.
Enjoy an introduction to this year’s activities, plus presentations covering all things orca - including:
- a conversation with Hugh Harrop about recent orca activity in the Orca Watch region
- an update from Julia Sutherland on her work with Ecopreds - studying the ecological consequences of orca predation on seals
- a talk on how the annual Orca Watch event helped one Sea Watch alumni, Dr Chloe Robinson, take her to work with cetacean conservation and the Southern Resident killer whales.
Finally we are honoured to be presenting the world première of "Truluck" - a documentary film following the life changing events that led window cleaner Steve Truluck to discover his passion for helping others fulfil their dreams of seeing orcas.
Orca Watch is organised by the Sea Watch Foundation.
The Sea Watch Foundation is a Registered Charity, No.1013002.
About Orca Watch
Orca Watch is a ten-day event, based in John O’Groats, and with watches taking place all around Caithness, North Sutherland, Orkney and Shetland.
During the week (28th May to 5th June) a specially recruited team of citizen scientists - our Official Orca Watch Volunteer Observers - will be conducting surveys to collect data on the whales, dolphins and porpoise in the area. Our partners on Orkney and Shetland will be doing likewise. And keen orca watchers will be coming to the area in the expectation of catching a glimpse of the iconic killer whale.
Following the success of Orca Watch Online 2021 (still available on the Sea Watch YouTube channel - just search for Orca Watch Live or click here) we're livestreaming the opening event to bring the magic of Orca Watch to those who can't join us in person.
About Sea Watch Foundation
Sea Watch Foundation is a national charity working to improve the conservation and protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises (cetaceans) in British and Irish waters. This is achieved by partnering our experts with volunteer citizen scientists to contribute sightings to Europe's biggest cetacean database. Orca Watch, and our National Whale and Dolphin Watch in July/August, are key events to collect additional sightings, involve more people and raise much needed funding.
