Come and join our welcoming community at Highbury Orchard for our regular Sunday volunteer sessions.
Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or completely new, there’s always something to get involved in. Tasks vary with the seasons and might include:
- Planting, weeding, and caring for the orchard and garden beds
- Wildlife habitat and conservation work
- Seasonal maintenance (mulching, pruning, composting)
- Helping with small building or craft projects
- Sharing food, skills, and good company

Practical Info
- When: Sundays (check Eventbrite for times).
- Where: Highbury Orchard, Highbury Park, Kings Heath, Birmingham. Directions provided when you book.
- Facilities: Compost toilet, handwashing, and shelter available.
- What to bring: Clothes you don’t mind getting muddy, sturdy shoes, gloves if you have them (spares available), and a snack or drink.
- All ages welcome – children remain the responsibility of their parent/carer.
Frequently asked questions
Yes – free parking is available at the Highbury Park car park (off Shutlock Lane). It’s a short walk to the Orchard from there.
We have a compost toilet at the Orchard. Handwashing facilities and drinking water are also available.
Yes please – booking helps us plan for numbers, materials, and safety. Sometimes we can accommodate drop-ins, but we can’t guarantee space.
Clothes suitable for the outdoors (we run sessions in most weathers!). Waterproofs/warm layers depending on the season. Sturdy shoes or boots. A water bottle and any snacks you might need.
The Orchard has natural, uneven ground, so it can be challenging for wheels. Some areas are accessible, but if you have particular needs, please get in touch before your visit and we’ll do our best to support you.
Yes – children are very welcome at our sessions. Please note children remain the responsibility of their parent/carer throughout.
We run in most weathers! If there’s extreme weather (very high winds, storms, or ice), we may cancel for safety. We’ll update ticket holders by email and Eventbrite as soon as possible.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the Orchard, however during organised events we ask they stay at home due to some of our audeince being nervous around dogs . Please clean up after them if you visit at other times. Assistant dogs are welcome at sessions.
Sometimes light refreshments are included (check event details). You’re very welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks.
