Join local volunteers for tree and hedgerow planting for a community orchard

    About this event

We are excited to announce two weekends of fruit tree and fruiting hedge planting in the green space behind St James School on Linsey Road, Bermondsey.

Join members of the local community aided by volunteers from the Rouel Blue Garden Club, Trees for Bermondsey, the Orchard Project and Southwark Council to plant 24 fruit trees and a variety of native fruiting hedge whips around the perimeter of the new orchard behind St. James School.

The fruit trees will be planted on Saturday December 4th and Sunday December 5th from 10:30am - 2:30pm.

The hedgerow will be planted on Saturday December 11th and Sunday December 12th from 10:30am - 2:30pm.

In time, the newly planted trees and hedgerow will bear fruit and enhance the environment for the local community. It will also provide an area for children’s play and outdoor education for the school and estate.

Please meet behind the school at 10:30am. Come wrapped up warm and prepared to get dirty. The planting will go ahead whatever the weather.

A safety briefing will be provided but please note the following:

    - Wear sturdy footwear, dress warmly and bring gloves

    - All under 18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian

If you have Covid symptoms or are self-isolating as a result of a positive test, please stay at home.

No refreshments will be provided but there are many cafes and shops nearby. There are no toilets on the site.
