OrganiCity Experimenters Workshop: Air Quality & Urban Mobility
Thu 30 March 2017, 18:45 – 20:45 BST
The EU’s OrganiCity platform’s first experimenter period is coming to an end. OrganiCity Experimenters AirPublic and Traffic Flow report back after 4 months of experimentation with urban data. What have they learned, what barriers have they encountered and how can their work inform the development of future urban data projects?
Short talks and group discussion, followed by drinks.
The European Commission’s OrganiCity experiment is a new EU project that puts people at the heart of develop of future cities. OrganiCity aims to apply co-creative practices to the development of three leading European areas developing smart city technologies and practices, London, Santander & Aarhus.
Rather than looking for the perfect solution from the get go, the OrganiCity project is focused on experimentation, on iteration and of building new tools together - both with citizens and collaborating with other experimenter projects and companies.
AirPublic has spent the last four months prototyping and refining a new vehicle-mounted mobile sensor platform, including our first co-location testing and deployments on Gnewt Cargo's electric delivery vehicle fleet. Hannah Gardiner and John Cant will be providing an in-depth breakdown of AirPublic's sensor testing and ongoing experimentation with spatio-temporal granular urban data.

Over the duration of the OrganiCity project, TrafficFlow have been refining their technology, a cheap and easily deployable traffic monitor. This is the first experiment using this technology outside of Italy. A core part of their experimentation revolved around the integration of the monitoring software with the OrganiCity platform and use of OC API's, which Fabrizio Dini will be reporting on during Thursday's event.

The two experimenter organisations will also be giving their thoughts and reporting on the use of the OrganiCity platform and inviting you to contribute to the discussion on the direction of the OrganiCity platform’s future development.
