Summary

This workshop is for HR and OD practitioners who are already started their OD journey and want to develop their OD skills further. It aims to develop the confidence of participants in using different models and mindsets including use of self.

Aims and Objectives

  • To review the 8 phases of OD
  • To practice using OD models to gather data and understand your clients’ business
  • To recognise that gathering data is an intervention in itself and has consequences
  • To consider organisational readiness for different approaches and interventions
  • To reflect on use of self

Further information on the session

Understanding your client and your clients business: Following gaining entry and contracting steps 3 and 4 of the OD process are collecting and analysing data. Data may include measures of performance, quality and risk as well as staff and patient feedback from surveys and focus group. The data gathering phase helps the client and the consultant to better understand the issues and environment and consider options for a way forward.

There is a growing interest in using more dialogic approaches to data gathering such as Appreciative Inquiry, World Café, Rich Pictures and Constellations. For these to be effective they require a greater level of openness by the organisation to reflect and maybe change the way they view themselves.

In all of this we need to reflect on ourselves as consultants, how we impact on the client and how we enter into some of those challenging conversations about the clients role in the story they are hoping to change

Target audience: This workshop is designed for those who have already undertaken the level 1 Introduction to OD consulting skills workshop or its equivalent and are already clear about which levels of intervention in the system they have or can operate at.

Pre-work: Delegates for the level 2 workshop will be asked to complete a pre workshop questionnaire outlining their understanding and experiences of difference levels of system.

Delegates will be encouraged to research and if possible bring with them a copy/ summary of their (client) teams i) purpose/mission statement, ii) KPIs or other performance/quality measures iii) people data such as staff survey results, iv) customer data such as friends and family test data and v) budget information.

Facilitator: Isabelle Iny, Authentic Leadership.

Isabelle is an independent management consultant with experience that spans NHS, local government and the private sector. Isabelle has particular skills in meeting organisational and personal goals through: Change Management, Organisation Development, Mentoring and Coaching, Career Management and Quality Management.
