Event description

Description

Part of Repowering Britain, a series of events organised by the Labour Energy Forum in collaboration with Platform London, for the 2017 Labour Conference fringe.

With Martin Smith (Head of Organising, Labour Party), Hilary Wainwright (Red Pepper), Councillor Aydin Dikerdem, Ewa Jasiewicz (Union Organiser), Farzana Khan (Platform), Amina Gichinga (tbc)

Corbyn's leadership promised 'a different kind of politics'. In response, trade unions and grassroots movements have begun to look to Labour as an organisation that can deliver real social change. Barcelona and other radical cities have shown how a party political project closely linked to movements can be a source of strength for both. How can Labour work effectively and serve as a resource for community struggles, without co-opting them? Where has Labour done this successfully in practice and what does the party still need to learn?

Repowering Britain is a space for bold left visions for a transformed economy, society and energy system. We will bring together thinkers and doers from across the Labour Party and trade union movement to discuss what our country should look like in 10, 20, 30 years. The Party’s manifesto has inspired millions. We will build on that to envision a reindustrialised and democratised economy that addresses the climate crisis and hands back control. Click here for our full programme of events.

Accessibility information: Our venue is wheelchair-accessible from the street. Unfortunately the toilets are located in the basement down a spiral staircase. Toilets are gendered male and female.
