Join us for the Orionid Meteor Shower and a Dark Sky Tour
Come join us on Monday, October 20th, 2025 at 8:30 PM in Tomintoul for an evening of meteor spotting and stargazing in Tomintoul & Glenlivet Cairngorms Dark Sky Park.
This year’s Orionid peak promises excellent viewing conditions, with the shower coinciding with a New Moon. The meteor shower, active from October 2nd to November 7th. The Orionids are considered particularly special as they originate from Comet 1P/Halley – better known as Halley’s Comet.
🌟 What to Expect:
Meet at the Tomintoul & Glenlivet Discovery Centre at 8:30 PM, where we’ll begin the evening with hot drinks, a short presentation, and a chance to handle real meteorites. Afterwards, we’ll take a gentle group walk to a nearby stargazing site using red head torches, which help preserve night vision.
As we will be outside, please dress appropriately for cold and changeable weather. Lots of layers, along with gloves and hat will make your stargazing experience more enjoyable. Please also wear appropriate footwear for potentially wet and wintry conditions.
If conditions are unsuitable on the day of the event the organiser will email attendees.
Toilets are available in Tomintoul and in the Discovery Centre.
Suggested donation of £7 through Eventbrite or on the night helps to support the Tomintoul & Glenlivet Cairngorms Dark Sky Park.
