About this event

Crimestoppers actively campaign on rural crime campaign to support Scotland’s rural communities and industries. 94% of Scotland is classified as ‘rural’ and NFU Mutual estimates that rural crime costs Scotland around £1.8 million annually, with levels reportedly increasing.

Working with a broad range of multi-agency partners we aim to:

• Increase actionable intelligence (currently under reported) on rural crime to Police Scotland and other Law Enforcement partners

• Raise awareness of Rural Crime across Scotland, providing community reassurance and public confidence

• Educate and increase understanding of RC issues across the public and the economic impact

• Support Rural industries and communities by preventing RC and combating the reported rise

• Disrupt RC activity by increasing awareness

• Support and promote the activities of SPARC (Scottish Partnership against Rural Crime) Member Organisations

Key threats/priorities associated with Rural Crime in Scotland are:

• Protecting Livestock.

• Securing Farm Machinery.

• Theft of equipment, vehicles and from fuel tanks

• Links to Serious and Organised Crime

• Deliberate Fire-setting

• Currently SEPA (Scottish Environmental Protection Authority) have identified the growing use of illegal warehousing waste across Scotland
