Ask An Artist: Developing Murals & Community Art Projects
Thursday 11th September, 10.30am–12pm, FREE at TOSH
Join us for our new monthly Ask An Artist sessions, part of our OSC (Open School Creative) programme. This session is open to all career artists and creatives, wherever you’re at.
Curious about how public art commissions come to life? Or interested in building participatory projects with your community?
This month we’re joined by Mirek Lucan of LucanArt – an artist, designer and photographer based on the South Coast. Known for his large-scale street art and bold illustrative style, Mirek draws inspiration from the natural world, technology, and the histories of places.
This summer, he has partnered with Highcliffe Castle to run community workshops, bringing local people together to create stained glass–inspired panels, alongside his exhibition Coast (open until 16th October).
Mirek is also currently working on a BCP Public Coastal Art commission, producing a large-scale mural soon to be unveiled in Boscombe.
In this relaxed Q&A, Mirek will share insights from his practice and offer advice on:
- Approaching and delivering public art commissions
- Running community art projects
- Building collaborations with local artists and organisations
Whether you’re looking for practical advice, inspiration for your own projects, or simply a chance to hear from a working artist in our community, come along and join the conversation. No need to prepare anything in advance (although you are welcome to), just bring your curiosity and we'll bring the cuppas....
Free to attend, open to all creatives and makers.
And why not arrive early and pop into Creative Cowork Club? Free coworking from 9am-12pm every Thursday!
