Let's Curate an Exhibition, with local curator Millie Lake

Weds 12th November, 6.30pm-8.30pm

Keen to learn how to exhibit your work, or even curate your own show? Join curator Millie Lake (curator of Unseen, TOSH’s upcoming open call exhibition) for a hands-on workshop exploring how to plan and arrange different artwork across diverse exhibition spaces.

Using a collage-based approach, we’ll experiment with curating our own “mini exhibitions” - either using your own creative work or images of artists that inspire you. Together, we’ll explore three very different local spaces - TOSH as a community space, Patch as a coworking space, B.A.D. as a gallery, and Rhythm Store as a vintage shop.

We'll consider what decisions we might make for each...How does the space change the way we curate? What might work in one setting but not another? We'll also consider the selection and sequencing of artwork, thinking about storytelling, themes, and audience experience.

We invite you to bring printed copies of your work (or send them over to us in advance and we’ll print them for you). You’re also welcome to simply come along, join the conversation, and take part in the group exploration.

Whether you’re an artist, a creative, or just curious about what happens behind the gallery walls, this session is about exploring ideas, testing possibilities, and gaining insight into the role of a curator.

No experience needed, just bring your curiosity!

Materials and Prep

We invite you to bring printed copies of your artwork if you'd like / if you have the facilities to do so. We also encourage you to send images of your artwork to us via email (contact@toshspace.co.uk), and we will print them for you ahead of the session! There is no pressure to bring work, you are welcome to come as you are and simply take part in group exploration. All collage materials will be provided.

About Millie Lake

"I’m a Dorset-based art curator with a goal of democratising the art world. Passionate about removing barriers that traditional galleries and museums impose, I work to enable everyone, regardless of their background or familiarity with art, to engage in creativity in a meaningful way."

We're super excited to have partnered up with Millie for our first ever show in our new exhibition programme here at TOSH - 'Unseen', a community art exhibition curated by Millie Lake.
