Oslo Geological City Tour
Date: 27.09.25
Meeting point: Youngstorget water fountain
Duration: Approx. 1.5hr
Exhibition Spiritual GPS by Alice Davies opens at Omnibus Galleri on 25 September. Inspired by Neolithic mounds near her childhood home in southern England, Silbury Hill and Windmill Hill, she will exhibit new handbuilt works using site-specific materials of chalk, magnetite and clay. Inspired by the unusual geomagnetic properties of these ancient sites, her works retell stories of our shared environment, seeking connection to this supposed familiar ground.
In conjuction to the exhibition, the public is invited to consider the geology of their own physical surroundings, despite the urbanity of the city. Through a guided tour by geologist Gard Lilledal Andersen, we will explore the geology of norwegian building stones, Drammen Granite, Tønsbergite, and Grefsen Syenite, considering their geological histories and processes. What has been their jounery from despoition to quarry to where we see them today? Can we see evidence of their eco-systems, processes or fossils and what stories do they tell?
The walk will conclude at the royal palace, with the option of returning to Omnibus Galleri with Alice to see the exhibition Spiritual GPS. She will discuss the magnetic minerals and site-specific stones in her ceramics practice, and their physical and conceptual involvement.
