Othello: The Curator's Room
Event Information
Description
Our exhibition Shakespeare Metamorphosis, concerns Shakespeare as text. In the Curators’ Room we weave the story of the text into the story of the library, as we talk about not only the words of the text but also the books that contain them, and their history and owners before they came to the University of London.
On display in the Curators’ Room is a rare First Folio and we see editions intended neither for scholarship nor plain reading, but for sheer beauty.
Join us in this exclusive opportunity to journey through the seven ages of Shakespeare and the evolution of his texts from the 17th century to the 21st. Curators of the exhibition Shakespeare Metamorphosis will discuss these rare texts in the intimate setting of the original room 101. They will focus on the tale of Othello, examining Senate House Library's copy of the main source of inspiration for the play, Giraldi Cinthio’s Hecatommithi.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the Metamorphosis exhibition which stretches across 3 floors of the iconic Senate House Building.
