Event description

Description

For parents and carers of children and young adults with special educational needs and/or disability - by Our Barn Carers Project.

Well done! You’ve got to the end of the long summer break intact. Come and share your successes (and possibly failures) with other parents and carers who also have experienced in the same challenge.

Our flexible schedule will look something like this:

Morning Session:

11.00am Arrival and welcome. Tea, coffee and morning pastries

11.30am Mindful meditation with BACP accredited Counsellor, Lesley Beck

Alongside parenting a young man with additional needs Lesley has spent many years as a Counsellor in the NHS. Her area of expertise is supporting parent carers during the first year on receiving a diagnosis for their child. She will share strategies that help with the inevitable wide range of emotions experienced by parent carers and will lead us through some gentle meditation techniques that can be used at home.

12.30pm Buffet Lunch

As lunch begins, we will reveal the first artwork completed by Our Barn Youth Club’s #iwill Social Action Project. This artwork will contribute to a larger public exhibition later in the year at the Steam Museum, before going into The People Hive in Twickenham for eventual sale to the public. Social Action aims to raise expectations and aspirations of what young adults with disabilities can achieve.

Afternoon Session:

1.30pm Gentle mindfulness and creativity in action

We are delighted that Brigitte and Karin from Hounslow Rotary will be demonstrating some original and stylish paper-based crafts. There will be a choice of project and lots of opportunities to ask questions in this interactive and fun session, which is aimed at inspiring participants to find a creative outlet that they can continue as time allows.

In addition, we will offer our popular mug decorating activity. Using porcelain pens to create your own unique design that gets baked in the oven when you get home, these mugs serve as an everyday reminder to practice mindful meditation at home.

Or just socialise!

3.00pm Event ends

Attendance us free, but space is limited, so please book: http://bit.ly/ourbarncarers

We are sorry, but this event is for carers only. Your cared-for person needs to be elsewhere. We hope to bring back family fun days in 2020.
