Event description

Description

A Marilyn is a mountain or hill in the United Kingdom, with a prominence of at least 150 metres (492ft) regardless of absolute height or other merit. The name was coined as a punning contrast to the designation Munro, used for a Scottish mountain with a height of more than 3,000 feet (914.4 m) which is homophonous with (Marilyn) Monroe.

Join staff from Brecon Beacons National Park Authority to learn everything that you ever wanted to know about one of our Marilyns’, Allt- yr-Esgair an iron-age hillfort, with panoramic views of the Usk valley, Llangorse Lake & the Black Mountains.

Starting at Llangasty village hall you will learn about the geology and archaeology and how the National Park warden team manage & maintain the popular bridleway. You will meet Helen Roderick who, together with her husband Richard, has placed Highland cattle on the Allt to help conserve the area. This is followed by a walk up the Allt to experience first- hand, the past the present and the future of this very special iron- age hill fort and popular walk, mountain bike and horse riding route.

This course has been organised by Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.

We are committed to providing courses in Welsh as well as English, if you would like simultaneous Welsh translation please let me know.
