Event description

Description

Join horticultural consultant Sally Cunningham for a walk and talk through the gardens of Cotesbach Estate.

Sally will give us a look at the creatures which happen to share a garden or hedge with us. For instance, red clover is a favourite food of short to midlength tongued bumble bees, the green clover weevil and numerous moths, including the narrow bordered 5 spot burnet and garden dart. Used for centuries to improve the soil due to nitrogen fixing bacteria on the roots - pull up a clover plant to see if it's working, they should be pink if active - clover is not only a good fodder for cattle (and useful high protein feed for horses) it also makes a pleasant cooked green for us. The just-open flowerheads in a tincture were used in heart complaints, menopausal symptoms and many other ailments including burns and excema..

Includes a cream tea after the walk.
