Your opportunity to participate in and support a novel Community Event to support local charities and in an

unique Fenland location

OWE is a non-competitive cycle or running challenge, and is being held on a 15Km off- road course from Counter Wash (Mepal Bridge) to Old Bedford River Bridge, Welney Village .with optional 6km course ending at RSPB Centre Welches Dam

Cyclists and runners aged from 5 to 95 years are invited to take part. (Children under 10 need to be able to show they have tackled an event of this type before)

There are transport options available to enable runners and bikers to transfer from Ely Railway Station and also return to the start at the end of the event. We also transport you safely to the start of the event at Mepal Bridge from the checkin/registration point at Mepal Outdoor Centre.

INDIVIDUALS - Please register and enjoy the experience

FAMILY GROUPS - One or two parent groups welcome. Families with children less than 10 must have one parent per child.  Children under 16 need parental permission, but are able to ride individually

SCHOOLS TEAM CHALLENGE  Form a Lions Team b (rey registering 4 responsible adults and up to 6-10 children for bike ride to Welches Dam only. Alternatively form a Tiger team with 2 Adults and up to 5 children.On return to the Mepal Outdoor Centre join in the free activities. 5-15 yrs olds only free registration but encouraged to raise sponsorship. Registration fee Lions £48 . Tigers £24 (please register as 4 or 2 adults with sponsorship and children individually) 


£100 includes entry for 4 riders or runners or a mixture, event T shirts. Team Members are expected to obtain 3rd party sponsorship which can be received through MyDonate where  a dedicated  Sponsorship Web page will be created to enable this. There will also be the opportunity to have your Corporate Team logo and link on the OWE website and event handbook.

Entrants have various options as to how they can raise money for our Charities

PERSONAL DONATION  - Please register as registration without  sponsorship. A donation is included in the Registration fee. We will recover gift aid on your behalf if you are a UK taxpayer

PERSONAL SPONSORSHIP - Please register as seeking  sponsorship. We will set up a website on MyDonate which will enable your friends and colleagues to sponsor you on line.If they are eligible for Gift Aid this will reclaimed automatically .

Headline Charity

MAGPAS  the emergency medical charity  was founded over 40 years ago to provide rapid response lifesaving emergency medical care. for further information see We are also supporting local Rotary charities eg Poss+Ability.

MAGPAS will receive 50% of all proceeds and  sponsorship money. No third party charities please


(please make sure you have read these before registering)


  •  Participants who wish to seek sponsorship must agree to pledge donations to the headline Charity MAGPAS and local Rotary Charities all of whom have been actively involved in enabling this event
  •  All entries from cyclists/runners under 16 years of age must be endorsed with the signed consent of a parent or other responsible adult


  • Children under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.


  • No more than two children under 10 years of age shall be supervised by one adult alone.


  •  Only runners aged 15 years and over shall be permitted to complete the full course. Those under 15 shall proceed only to Welches Dam.


  •  Cyclists aged under 10 years ( supervised by a responsible adult ) shall be presumed to be proceeding only to Welches Dam unless indication is given to the contrary.


  •   Entrants must follow the Highway Code, and move in single file rather than alongside others. Cyclists are asked to keep to the left, runners to the right.


  •  Overtake only when necessary and do so with caution


  • Cyclists/runners should be aware that cycling/running can be strenuous and be aware of their limitations and capabilities.


  • If in doubt about fitness or ability, it is strongly recommended that medical advice be sought.


  • Cyclists must ensure bicycles are in roadworthy condition, and tyres fully inflated. Neither Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland ( RIBI ) nor the Rotary Club of Ely Hereward can accept any responsibility for the safety and/or suitability of any bicycles to be ridden.


  • The wearing of helmets by cyclists is mandatory, and suitable insurance is recommended.


  • The use of ipods or similar audio devices during running or riding is discouraged.


  • The carrying of a mobile phone for use in case of emergency is recommended, but phones must not be used during running or riding.


  • Except for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of RIBI or the Rotary Club of Ely Hereward, no liability will be accepted for the consequences of any accident occurring whilst taking part in this event. Participants are asked to take care at all times for both their own safety and the safety of others.


  •  No liability can be accepted for loss or damage to personal effects.


  •  Riders/runners must respect the Country Code and leave the course tidy, removing all litter. Empty water bottles should be disposed of in the black sacks provided at marshalling stations

The Rotary eClub of East Anglia is a virtual Rotary Club that meets on-line every Wednesday evening from 19:30hrs. The Club has around 30 members at present, and functions as a terrestrial Rotary Club does.
