Luke Gottelier is a painter and photographer. He recently exhibited in NewSpeak 2 at the Saatchi Gallery and has exhibited internationally for over 15 years. He has a solo show at Ancient and Modern, London in June 2013, who represent him.
Luke will let us into his creative space where he plays with ideas and works out ways to process them into riotous hybrid works, which mix painting and found objects. Luke is a ball of enthusiasm and more than happy to natter away about how he makes his work. He claims that absurdity plays a big role and there are many jokes and subversive games to be discovered in his work. Luke’s paintings have been widely collected and exhibited and he is currently represented by the gallery Ancient and Modern in London. The visit promises to be pivotal in the programme, as it grapples with some of art's big debates about painting and Luke is also a big fan of the German painter, Albert Oehlen.
About Art Wednesday's 'Out and About' tours:
The intellectualisation of the art world bugs us, which is why here at Art Wednesday we attempt to simplify it online. Offline we host Nice To Meet You events that connect you our audience with the people and ideas that you deserve to know about. With 'Out and About', we've gone one step further and created a series of tours, so you can now meet the incredible community of artists working right under your noses, either in their own environment or at a gallery. These studio and gallery visits will offer you a little window into art in the making and the opportunity to see it up close, without the usual stuffiness.

Arrive: 6:30pm [sharp!!]
What can/can't I bring to the event?
It's worth bringing a pad and pen to jot down any notes if you'd like, but most importantly read up on Luke, understand who he is because this is your opportunity to speak face to face with him.
We're not sure if the studio is heated so maybe an extra jumper too.
From Rotherhithe overland station (east London line), come out of station, cross the road, head through passageway and turn right onto Albion street. Library is about a minute up on the right - any problems we blame Luke! hahaha.
Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?
