Out-of-body Dance Games - "I'll show you mine if you show me yours"
A free experimental workshop by visual artists Alice Theobald and Urara Tsuchiya that focuses on how dance and costume can simultaneously signify both spectacle and some kind of visceral release through processes of performative transformation.
- Composition techniques based on games of chance, mimicry and call and response.
- Systems and structures being fused with improvisation and spontaneity.
- How music, costume and movement inform one another, and the potential of them coexisting in tension and in harmony; manipulating, restricting and permitting.
- Transformative possibilities of inhabiting temporary bodies through costumes and movement.
From 'An Address To The Body' dance series curated by Rebecca Bligh
An Address To The Body is an invitation to engage with the embodied experience of dance, in all its potential for psychic and physical transformation. It is an invitation to dance: dance considered as research, as a learning with the body, a highly complex and refined area of human activity, even a kind of thinking according to theories of somatic intelligence. To this end, teacher-practitioners of Haitian Vodou, Butoh, Dancehall, and Contemporary dance forms will offer a series of free dance and dance-based workshops, talks and participatory performance.
