Are you a core trainee or GP trainee working in psychiatry? Then the Out of Hours Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Simulation is just for you! Aimed at all junior doctors working in psychiatry, this free half-day course is particularly focused at those who might be relatively new to working in mental health. It utilises a combination of two immersive and complex multi-part simulations as well as expert-led group discussions in order to build the core knowledge and skills required when managing young people with mental health problems presenting to emergency departments out of hours.
Intended learning outcomes are based on those set by the RCPsych and RCGP. By the end of the course participants will:
Have improved knowledge, skills and confidence in the assessment and immediate management of children and young people presenting with self-harm
Have improved understanding of the different professionals involved in the care of young people presenting with acute mental health problems, and have increased confidence in inter-agency working
Have improved awareness of complex confidentiality and competence/capacity issues in children and young people
Have improved skills in recognising the needs of vulnerable young people, and improved understanding of child protection issues and how to act upon concerns
Have improved knowledge of the emergency use of medication, rapid tranquilisation, restraint and seclusion in young people
