About this Event

Outdoor Spaces Programme

Funded by the PEACE IV Programme and delivered by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, this is a FREE community engagement project focusing on the environment, heritage, leisure & recreation and biodiversity. This programme is targeted at those aged 6-12 years old.

A series of interactive, educational videos will be produced to teach young people all about the skills needed to become a Park Ranger! These videos will include sing-a-longs, arts and crafts tutorials, special guest speakers and an exclusive series from Alan at Wee Critters- all about his animals, how they fit into the ecosystem, and what we can do to protect them. You can watch the videos in your own time but you must sign up to complete this training programme and receive your exclusive Park Ranger certificate at the end!

The videos will commence on 5th November and resources will be released in staggered intervals over the following two weeks.

About the programme We want to encourage you, your child and family to venture out into your local parks. This programme was due to be held in a park near you. With the arrival of COVID-19 we are going to bring the outdoors, indoors!

This programme will consist of entertaining and educational resources with facilitators and special guests bringing the themes to life. Your child/children can join from the safety of your own home.

For evaluation and monitoring purposes we ask that you kindly complete this form (one per every child watching) so that you can be updated on the latest videos to go live, and to ensure that we are able to recieve feedback and data about the success of this programme.

This programme aims to:

  • Promote and create welcoming & safe shared spaces.
  • Explore and learn about our physical & social environment.
  • Learn and develop new skills & creative ideas.
  • Build new friendships and enhance positive relationships.

Biodiversity The air you breathe, the water you drink and the food you eat all rely on biodiversity. Learn about the eco system around you with activities that cover topics like identifying plants, animal habitats and food webs.

Environmental Encourage environmental awareness by introducing the 3 R’s: Reduce waste, Re-use resources and Recycle materials. Participants will take a walk on the wild side with guided nature walks and bug hunting.

Cultural/Heritage Take a step back in time and explore local culture and heritage with historical workshops. Explore the links between parks and towns.

Health and Wellbeing Sunlight is the best natural source for our bodies to produce Vitamin D. Allowing children (and adults!) the freedom to be outside, we reinforce their emotional well-being, and in turn encourage them to embrace the natural world independently. Learn of the many benefits of outdoor recreation.
