An exciting opportunity to try out Outdoor Swimming in the Brecks in a safe and friendly session with qualified lifeguards and experienced swimmer volunteers. It is free.

This event, which aims to equip you to understand how to keep yourself safe and to enjoy the water responsibly, is funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund, as part of the BFER Healing Waters Project.

When booking, please enter your email address carefully, as we will need to email you and if we can’t then your booking will no longer be valid. Please also include a valid mobile phone number if possible.

These are the timeslots:

12.15 - 13.10

13.45 - 14.40

14.45 - 15.40

The event is for adults and 13 plus young people who have not been to an intro session before, are new to swimming outdoors and would like to have a go or would like to learn more about doing it safely, and swim in the Brecks area or nearby, or would like to (area shown with a black dotted line on the map on this page, https://brecks.org/bfer/key-documents/bfer-scheme-area-map/).

A separate booking needs to be done for each person, whether adult or aged 13-17. Young people will be asked for details of their parent/guardian and need to state that they have agreed to come. The parent/guardian will need to give permission for those aged 13-17.

We will give you Essential Information in advance about potential risks, clothing, equipment, and you can download it here (Word.doc, 4 pages), https://www.imogensriverswims.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Essential-info-for-PARTICIPANTS-swim-intro-040922.doc. We will also ask you to fill in a survey before attending.

A key purpose of the Healing Waters project is to promote and to study the benefits of engaging with nature and outdoor activity. So throughout this and the other projects in the BFER scheme we will be asking participants about their experiences before and after project activities. So we would like your permission to contact you after the event to follow up. We will keep contact information in compliance with data protection legislation, and not pass it to third parties.

Once you have booked, please look out for an email from Imogen Radford, including in your spam or junk folder.

I hope you don't have to cancel, but if you do have to drop out, please email me imogen36@googlemail.com.

The event is part of the Healing Waters project, supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund. Healing Waters, one of the BFER projects, will engage people in outdoor swimming and other watery activities with training to enjoy the waters safely and with care for the environment, and it will map and consider establishing and publicising suitable places for swimming or for other recreational uses of the rivers. Read more about the Healing Waters project at https://www.imogensriverswims.co.uk/blog/os-brecks-2/healing-waters-project-outline/

The event is particularly focused on people who swim in the Brecks area or nearby, or would like to. (The project area is shown with a black dotted line on the map on this page, https://brecks.org/bfer/key-documents/bfer-scheme-area-map/)
