Event description

Description

This seminar will analyse the domestic legal framework of the United Arab Emirates in relation to international law in the context of increasing human rights violations. In the UAE, Emirati and foreign nationals both are frequently arrested on charges that violate rights inscribed in international human rights charters such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

How do the UAE authorities manage to get away with this, and what mechanisms exist in order to hold them to account? Join the ICFUAE in collaboration with the Cambridge University Law Society for a panel discussion on violations of international human rights law in the UAE.

When: 23rd January 2018, 17:00-19:00

Where: Cambridge University - Lecture Theatre 18 (LG18)

Speakers:

- Christopher Davidson - Reader in Middle Eastern politics and history at Durham University

- Pete Weatherby QC - Human Rights Barrister with pro bono experience in matters relating to the UAE

- Drewery Dyke - Human Rights Researcher with extensive experience in the Gulf region
