Open Boat House for Alumni, Family and Friends of OUWLRC

About this Event

Alumni, family and friends of OUWLRC are warmly invited to an Open Boat House event at the Fleming Boat House, Wallingford.

The current President, Naomi Holland, and Executive Committee warmly invite all alumni members of OUWLRC to return to Fleming Boat House for an Open Day event on Sunday 28th April, from 11:00-16:00.

Meet up with your old crewmates, reminisce about your time rowing, coxing and training with OUWLRC and get the chance to hop back in a boat! Please bring along any photos you have of your time with OUWLRC for our picture board.

Refreshments for lunch will be provided, please indicate any dietary requirements when registering for your ticket.

Registration is free, although a voluntary donation to the Topolski Fund to help secure the future of OUWLRC would be gratefully received. For more information on the fund and to donate, visit the website here.

Please share with your crewmates and friends from OUWLRC, we look forward to seeing you all!

OUWLRC AGM & Annual Dinner

On the evening of Sunday 28th April, OUWLRC will be holding its Annual General Meeting. The AGM will be followed by the Annual Dinner, to which all current and alumni OUWLRC members are invited to attend. Details of the AGM and Annual Dinner will be circulated via the OMA Mailing List when the location, timings and cost (for dinner) are confirmed.

Current and alumni OUWLRC members are encouraged to attend both the AGM and the Dinner, as there will be a number of items relating to the future of OUWLRC, including the establishment of the Topolski Fund, and proposals to follow our male counterparts by moving the Lightweight Women’s Boat Race to the Tideway. We actively encourage as many members of the club, both past and present to be involved and represented in these discussions. If you have any questions, please contact Zoe De Toledo (Acting Chair) or Alison Salvesen (Senior Member).

Topolski Fund

As many of you are aware, Lightweight Rowing has been underfunded for decades, so it is only the generosity of many of you that has kept us afloat. Students and their parents have had to dig into their own pockets to pay for coaches, boats, kit and training camps, typically spending thousands of pounds per season. This has restricted participation to those who can afford to pay, and often only for a single season.

The Topolski Fund will provide a reliable income stream in perpetuity. We are very fortunate, along with OUBC, OUWBC and OULRC, to have received a foundation of £10 million, and over 450 further individual donations - of which at least 22 are from OUWLRC. We are hugely grateful for this generosity. We hope that more OUWLRC alumni and supporters will bolster this number.

The Topolski Fund has contributed just over £6k to our budget this season, aiming to rise to more than £100k when fully funded. As you will be aware, this will have an immensely positive impact on the Club and its students, giving us the best chance to win Boat Races.
