About the workshop
This interactive workshop focuses on developing strategies that address the many barriers/ challenges that prevent parents and schools from engaging effectively. The workshop includes, among other things, practical techniques for reaching out to disengaged families and building parental support for learning. The importance of staff training is also discussed, with ideas on how to help teachers and support staff to work collaboratively with parents for the benefit of children.

Why attend?
We know that children do better on a range of measures when parents are involved in their children’s education. Yet many schools struggle to engage parents, particularly those they most want to reach. If you’ve tried everything yet are still battling to engage those ‘harder to reach parents’ then join this workshop to hear imaginative and powerful ideas on:

  • overcoming the barriers to parental involvement
  • revamping your school ethos
  • encouraging positive behaviour
  • the prime opportunities to make a difference
  • staff training and development

“Parental engagement in children’s learning makes a difference – it is the most powerful school improvement lever we have” Dr. Janet Goodall

Who should attend?

  • Headteachers and principals
  • Deputy and assistant headteachers
  • Pastoral support teams and family liaison teams
  • Staff with responsibility for parental involvement
  • Governors
  • Local authority advisers
  • Parents interested in taking this work forward with their school
