Struggling to manage autism / neurodiversity at work? Gain a deeper understanding of autism, overcome challenges, and embrace neurodiversity
About this event
Do you have problems with autistic or neurodiverse employees that are causing friction at work?
Or do you recognise that there are advantages to being an organisation that welcomes diversity of thinking, but you need help in achieving this?
Neurodiverse employees can bring advantages to businesses, but they can also be challenging colleagues when they think about and perceive the world completely differently to the rest of the team. This causes misunderstandings which can lead to friction in team relationships. When colleague relationships break down, it has a big impact on a business and its people.
Join Dr Elizabeth Guest in this two-hour online session to gain clear insights into autism and neurodiversity and how to manage these types of people to enhance your workforce. Aimed at managers, employers, recruiters and HR personnel, this insightful talk will cover a variety of common pitfalls and simple strategies to solve and avoid stressful misunderstandings.
Frustration and conflict between people who perceive, experience, and think about the world differently is common. It may be so bad that a neurodiverse person is accused of workplace bullying when the problem is really a combination of communication and social difficulties that have not been recognised as something to do with disability, but misunderstood as something to do with personality.
You may also have concerns about an employee’s competency if they’re underperforming in some elements of their job or refusing to attempt certain tasks. Autistic people can be exceptional in some areas but struggle with seemingly straightforward requests or some other elements of their job role that their colleagues do with little difficulty. This is not usually due to a lack of intelligence or commitment, and it is important to get to the roots of what is going on. Sometimes these kinds of difficulties show up after a change of job role or in the job description.
Sometimes there are simple solutions that allow the employee and the organisation to thrive. Other times the organisation needs to think carefully about whether or not its practices are discriminatory and whether more thought needs to be given towards creating an organisation that welcomes diversity of thinking.
This training is an insightful introduction to some of the root causes of common pitfalls that managers face when dealing with autistic or neurodiverse employees.
Learning how to identify the real root causes of the problem and understanding how to diffuse difficult situations is the key to successfully managing autistic and neurodiverse employees and maximising benefits for your employees and your business.
With this training, you’ll be able to better understand your neurodiverse colleagues and apply simple strategies to ease friction in the workplace, so everybody can move forwards with the support they need.
