About this event
This is a DAAT funded course and free to eligible service users. It is a training course looking at the drugs and behaviours most strongly associated with overdose. The course emphasises the importance of recognising an overdose as early as possible and teaches the participant how to give lifesaving first aid and to get the ambulance service involved at the earliest opportunity.
You will learn about the following:
- Risks associated with drug overdose
- Recognising an overdose
- First aid treatment for an overdose
- Myths related to overdose
- Naloxone – what it does
The course is delivered by qualified trainers across East Sussex and all participants will receive a certificate of attendance on completion of the training. Attendees will be asked to provide a name and email address in order for this to be sent out by CGL after the session.
Once training is complete, along with the certificate, a questionnaire will be sent out from ESCC to be completed by the participant advising when they will collect the Nyxoid spray, free first aid kit and window sticker from CGL. Certificate and proof of employment/ address will need to be shown to CGL staff upon collection.
Attendees must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the Nyxoid spray; if they are an outreach worker, a drug user at risk of an overdose, a carer, a friend or relative of a drug user, a hostel manager, a local business owner or an individual working in an environment where there is a risk of opiate overdose for which the Nyxoid may be useful.
Attendees are still able to attend the training and collect a Nyxoid spray if they live outside of these areas, these can be collected from their local CGL establishment.
Participants must live/ work or are a business owner in Hastings or St Leonards to be eligible for a first aid kit and window sticker and only one kit will be given per establishment.
