Event description

Description

Overthinking and anxiety: effects on the human ability to focus attention, an experimental cognitive psychology perspective.

With Darren Shaw

@Eastbourne House Arts
Bethnal Green, London

12.30pm – 2.30pm

Anxiety is a typical emotional response to threat and danger that every human has experienced to some degree. It is characterised by increased heart rate, excessive worry and an increased focus on potential threats. When anxiety goes out of control, it can lead to panic attacks that impact a person’s life if it happens enough.

At this seminar, Darren Shaw will take attendees through some of the histories of research into how overthinking and anxiety impacts human ability to be effective at achieving goals and staying focused. Through the discussion of the research and theory, attendees will be encouraged to consider the implications of what is being discussed, reflecting on experiences of moments of anxiety, whether that is from losing a mobile phone, to dealing with a relationship breakup.

By the end of the seminar, each attendee will have an increased understanding of the work being carried out in the research of anxiety within the field of Psychology.
