Event description

Description

Dr Garry Palmer, coach, athlete, exercise physiologist and author of a number of training books will deliver a 2 hours session on the signs and symptoms of overtraining, and more importantly, how to monitor and avoid it.

Whilst the session will be targetted towards endurance sports, particularly running, cycling and triathlon, Dr Palmer has undertaken extensive work with team sports (including premiership football teams), combat sports (as part of the support team for English karate at World and European championships) and F1 motor racing, so the information delivered will be targetted to meet the wider needs of the audience.

The aim of this 2 hour session is to help you improve your understanding of training, and how to avoid the pitfalls of overtraining.

In this session we will cover:

  • Basic training principles

  • Overtraining syndrome, including:
    i) Understanding stages of over-reaching and over-training
ii) Physiological, psychological, health and performance markers of overtraining
iii) The impact of overtraining on performance
  • Optimal recovery from exercise to reduce the likelihood of overtraining
  • Achieving optimal performance on competition day

The session will be designed to help you get more from your training time, and enhance your recovery to help you elevate your performance!

There will be an opportunity to ask question during and following the session.

We look forward to meeting you.
