Overview - Electrification & Decarbonisation
Event Information
About this event
Electrification of offshore oil and gas facilities presents an exciting opportunity to cut the carbon footprint in the UK’s energy production, helping us all take some big steps towards a net-zero future. Current plans under consideration could involve rewiring the North sea, building power networks that connect offshore production platforms to the national grid and seeing new wind farms developed to support the increase in demand.
To have a meaningful impact, we need to move at pace and see electrification up and running in the next five years. This challenging task will require alignment between sectors that have never been together before, uniting the power sector, the oil and gas sector and the national transmission system and regulatory frameworks and seeking synergies with wind farm developers and technology innovation.
OGUK is holding a series of events in early 2022 to increase awareness of the opportunities and challenges relating to electrification. Through these engagements we believe we can provide new insight on how the challenges can best be addressed, helping to develop collective solutions that can affordably meet the UK’s energy and decarbonisation requirements. They will present opportunities for companies to come together and meet investors wrestling with the solutions we need today.
Event 1 : Overview - Electrification & Decarbonisation
This session will frame the challenge: As part of the North Sea Transition Deal, the UK Oil and Gas industry has committed to decarbonising its operations, with the first step being to halve its emissions by 2030. Offshore platform electrification at scale will be a major contributor to the sector’s decarbonisation. The scale and the challenges of electrification will be introduced as well as its potential leverage of wind farm production.
Join us to hear a series of presentations from OGUK, OGA, Orsted and Xodus followed by a Q&A session where sponsor ABB will also join the panel.
The session will be chaired by Michael Tholen, Sustainability Director, OGUK, where you will hear from:
- Asmund Maland, Group Vice President, Subsea and Offshore Power, Oil and Gas, Energy Industries, ABB
- Andy Brooks, CNS Area Manager, OGA
- Thibaut Cheret, Emissions Improvement Manager, OGUK
- Beatrice d’Eufemia, Technical Package Manager, Ørsted
- Daniel Paterson, Principal Consultant, Xodus Group
