Monday 14 July is the National Remembrance Day for victims of so-called 'Honour Based Abuse', which marks the birthday of Shafilea Ahmed. Shafilea was born in Bradford and murdered by her parents in Warrington in 2003.
An hour's taster session giving a top-level awareness overview of Hidden Harm and harmful traditional practices, including:
- Honour-based abuse
- Forced marriage
- Modern slavery and human trafficking
- Female genital mutilation (FGM)
- Sex selection abortion
- Breast ironing/flattening
The session will be run by Bal Howard, who has lived experience of these areas.
This session gives an overview only. For more in-depth sessions, please contact Bal. This event will not cover signs/indicators, it is purely about awareness.
