Who owns our lands?
We're kick-starting House of the Commons 2016 with Oxford Mapathon, an interactive mapping session with an introductory talk by Andy Wightman, author of 'Who Owns Scotland', 'Community Land Rights: A Citizens Guide' and 'The Poor Had No Lawyers', together with Tom Kenny from Shared Assets.
Our mapping sessions will follow through themes of food, housing and energy, chaired by experts in the subjects.
Note: The event will take place in Room AB207, Abercrombie Building, Oxford Brookes University, Gypsy Lane, OX3 0BP.
9am - set up room
10:00-10:30 Intro/Logistics/What do we want from today? (discuss on tables (3 tables) for 5mins and one person from each feeds back)
10:30-10:45 Andy Wightman 'Who owns Scotland How-to'
10:45-11:00 Shared Assets approach
11:00-11:15 - Explain the exercise: Mapping three land ownership themes (food/energy/housing). Floating collaborators fourth team who work to help the groups share data and info.
11:30-13:00 (1.5hrs) - Participants sit on chosen table with a) expert in table theme and b) expert in mapping
LUNCH (1hr) - encouraged to look at work of other teams and share ideas
14:00 (1.5hrs) - Session 2 (swap teams if you want?)
15:30 - Final presentation and combining maps of the three themes
16:00 - Finish event and to the pub :)
