Oxford Media Convention 2017

BRITAIN’S MEDIA: OUR PLACE IN THE WORLD

Wednesday 8 March 2017, Said Business School, Oxford

The UK media system is at a crossroads: will it continue to evolve a European style mixed media system based on public ownership, public value and public service alongside a dynamic market? Should it evolve more along the American model of a free marketplace? Or is this an opportunity to devise a unique new British settlement for the media?

The political events of 2016 signal a new chapter in UK history and have opened a range of opportunities and challenges for the media. Not only will the coming months determine how and to what extent the existing EU framework for media regulation will continue to apply domestically, the export environment for UK producers will be transformed. Such a profound shift in the geopolitical environment will challenge the very foundations of the existing settlement for broadcasting, telecommunications and the creative industries, and upset existing settlements for public service and media freedom.

Experts from government, regulation, academia and civil society come together in this unique event at a crucial time in the unfolding process: they will be joined by a range of international experts to debate the challenges facing the sector at a time of major institutional change.

If you wish to take advantage of a 20% early bird discount, please register your place by 6pm, Friday 16th December 2016.

Refund policy: if tickets are cancelled before 8th February, we will charge an administration fee of £50.00 (Eventbrite fees cannot be refunded). After that we will be unable to issue refunds.
