Preventing the Gap –

Making Big Impacts through Small Changes in Mathematics

I would like to invite you to join me from 9:45am on Wednesday 21st June 2017 to consider leading and managing high achievement in mathematics in your school. The session, sponsored by Oxford University Press and organised by Archimedes Maths Hub, offers the opportunity to attend a full day of professional development.

During the day we will consider how to make big impacts through small changes in the teaching of mathematics, looking at:

  • What does effective mastery look like in mathematics, and how can this be based on Bruner’s and Dienes’ research?
  • Concrete, Pictorial to Abstract: tasks to help children understand the concepts behind what they are asked to do, to ensure that all children are successful in mathematics.
  • How to leverage the powerful aims of the 2014 National Curriculum to support Mastery.
  • Problem solving, including a deep understanding of Bar Modelling as used in Singapore.
