Course Overview

What are the behaviours and attitudes associated with wellbeing? Can understanding more about what makes us happy help students lead a meaningful and impactful life? And why and how should teachers be promoting wellbeing? This course aims to help English language teachers learn more about the knowledge and skills that students need in order to take good care of their physical and mental health and social interactions. Rooted in the findings of positive psychology, this Oxford Teachers’ Academy course explores the impact that wellbeing can have on attainment and suggests ways that wellbeing can be incorporated into the English language lesson.

During this course you will learn about topic of wellbeing and the advantages of promoting it in the language classroom. You will consider practical techniques to help foster student awareness of wellbeing topics within the context of an English lesson. You will also reflect on the challenges and affordances of your own situation and discuss and share ideas for best next-steps with regards to teaching wellbeing.

Oxford Teachers’ Academy strives to put teachers at the heart of the conversation. Whether or not you are already familiar with the research-based theory of wellbeing, the course will provide plenty of food for thought, fresh insights into the topic, and opportunities for reflection on your own situation - whatever the age and level of the students that you teach.

You will also have the opportunity to interact with other colleagues, creating a small but valuable community of practice.
