Event description

Description

We are delighted to announce a significant joint OxLEP and OxLEP Skills event full of activity, including our regular Q&A event and skills conference.

The Oxfordshire economy is one of the best-performing nationally and the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) - working alongside key partners - has ambitious plans for sustainable growth driven by a Local Industrial Strategy, including significant job creation over the period to 2040.

We already have significant numbers of new jobs in the county. Between 2011/12 and 2016/17, Oxfordshire has seen a total of 50,000 new jobs created.

Young people are at the heart of this ambition – indeed, the county cannot achieve sustainable growth without ensuring that we have a suitably-qualified and skilled workforce. The world of work and employers’ needs change so rapidly that it’s often difficult to keep pace.

Come along to our Q&A event and Skills conference to find out more.

Our morning session at Blenheim Palace includes:

Q&A event - 7.45am to 10am (The Orangery):

A panel - made-up of key skills-related business and education leaders - will discuss whether or not education providers and young people are indeed prepared for the jobs of tomorrow.

Our Q&A will once again be chaired by radio presenter, Howard Bentham.

Full panel to be announced in due course, with Q&A event timings as follows:

  • 7.45am: Arrival, refreshments and networking
  • 8.30am to 10am: Q&A debate, chaired by Howard Bentham
  • 10am: Q&A closes

Skills conference - 10am to 12noon (The Spencer Churchill Room):

As well as receiving up-to-date 'skill-specific' details from OxLEP on the Oxfordshire Local Industrail Strategy, conference attendees will also hear how embedding careers and enterprise across schools not only raises aspirations but also impacts attainment, behaviour and attendance.

We would encourage headteachers, chairs and vice-chairs of governing bodies, CEIAG Link governors and any senior leaders with responsibility for careers to attend.

Conference event timings are as follows:

  • 9.30am: Arrival, refreshments and networking
  • 10am: Welcome and presentation of Local Industrial Strategy by Ahmed Goga, Director of Strategy and Programmes, OxLEP: ‘How does skills underpin the future of our economy?’
  • 10.45am: ‘How embedding careers and enterprise across your school not only raises aspirations but also impacts attainment, behaviour and attendance’ - Nick Bowen, Principal, Horizons Academy
  • 11.30am: 'An Enterprise Adviser Network success story' - Wood Green School and Abbott
  • 12noon: Skills conference closes

Please note - you're welcome to attend both events. If this is the case, please register for both sessions, or choose one of the following options when registering if you wish to attend just one event:

  • 07.45 to 10:00 - Q&A event only
  • 10:00 to 12:00 - Skills conference only

We look forward to seeing you!
