Do you know what spat-on-shell oysters are?
Spat are juvenile (baby) oysters, that have moved on from their floating larval stage, and settled onto shell material. This differs from other oysters growing in our nursery, which we purchased as spat singles: oyster spat which is a bit larger and not attached to shell or other hard substrate.
We are exploring spat-on-shell oysters for our restoration project for the first time! But we need your help.
To monitor the progression our spat-on-shell oysters are making, we must count and measure each spat, and document this in our data sheets.
Please come along to our volunteer day to meet our very young oysters, and help us on one step of our journey to restoring oysters to Loch Aline.
Come prepared to handle live oysters, and learn more about our restoration efforts!
All ages welcome
