Leading renewable energy company, Ørsted, is partnering with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust to launch Wilder Humber - an ambitious five-year programme to restore marine habitats and species throughout the Humber estuary, a large tidal estuary on the east coast of northern England, and one of the busiest and fastest-growing trade routes in Europe.

The iconic Humber estuary is also one of the most important natural features and conservation sites in the UK. Oysters are ecosystem engineers that work tirelessly to keep our seas healthy and clean filtering 200 litres of water per day! Their reefs create vital habitats for marine life, boost biodiversity, and support healthier, more resilient coastlines.

We need a team of volunteers to help us restore and enrich nearly 40 hectares of protected habitats and rebuild the Humber’s lost native oyster population to over half a million oysters.

Frequently asked questions

I am under 18, can I attend ?

Yes, under-18s can volunteer! Under-16s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who also registers. Aged 16–17? You can volunteer alone, but must register in advance, provide a signed parental consent form, and get approval from the volunteer manager. Contact us at: wilder.humber@ywt.org.uk

What should I bring ?

Bring your own lunch and plenty of water to stay energized and hydrated throughout the day and ensure to bring any personal items needed (ie medication).

What should I wear ?

Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Wear layers for changing conditions, and bring wellies, waterproofs, sun protection (sunscreen & hat), and clothes you don’t mind getting muddy. Spare wellies/waterproofs available—please contact us to book ahead of time.

Is there parking available on site ?

Where exactly should I go, once I arrive on site ?

After you park, meet us in the Blue Bell cottage - use this link for direction https://w3w.co/dinner.silence.louder. We are located less than 2 minutes walk from parking.

Is there toilet on site ?

Yes, there is toilet available and we will arrange often toilet breaks.
