Overview

Learn how PACE can support children & young people affected by trauma, helping build safe, trusting relationships

One Day Course

This training provides insights into the effects trauma can have on the development and well-being of children and young people. It outlines how by using the principles of PACE, adults can build safe, trusting and meaningful relationships with children and young people, and support them to feel connected, understood and secure.

PACE helps adults to slow down their reactions, stay emotionally regulated and tune into the experiences of children and young people to gain a better understanding of what they are feeling, and facilitate the recovery of trust and a sense of safety.

Aims

  • Understand trauma and its impact on children and young people’s development and well-being
  • Understand how trauma may impact on behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Recognise the factors that necessitate a unique parenting style, such as PACE, in conjunction with behavioural support for children and young people.
  • Understand how to effectively support and nurture children and young people who have faced developmental trauma
  • Identify the skills and qualities parents/carers need to cultivate in order to provide the best care
  • Gain clarity on the concept of PACE and distinguishing it from other approaches
  • Consider how implementing PACE along with emotional regulation and behavioural strategies can be beneficial
  • Prioritise self-care and increase awareness of why blocked care is vital for both parents/carers and children
  • Explore practical tips for creating a supportive environment for learning and daily life

Who should attend?

This training is designed for any adult involved in the care or support of children and young people who have undergone relational trauma. This includes adoptive parents, foster carers, kinship carers, and practitioners including those working in residential, education, and support settings.
