Packing and Handling including Archival Collections

This one day workshop, delivered by Wiltshire’s Conservation & Museums Advisory Service, provides you with the chance to brush up your knowledge and practice your skills in packaging and handling a range of objects and materials.
Who should attend?
This session is aimed at non-specialists and will be accompanied by a detailed delegate pack of follow-up material.

- How to safely handle 3D and 2D collections
- Styles of suitable packing
- Box making - demonstration
- Which materials are safe to use
- Packaging 3D and 2D collections – practical sessions
- Documentation and labeling
Wiltshire Council’s Conservation & Museums Advisory Service (CMAS)
CMAS works with heritage organisations across Wiltshire and beyond. As an Institute of Conservation (ICON) accredited service with over 40 years experience, we work to recognise professional standards providing advice and support to ensure that collections can be preserved and enjoyed for the future.
Sarah Money – Senior Conservation Officer (Archives) studied paper conservation at Camberwell College of Arts, gaining additional experience at the word and image department at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Sarah is a member of the ARA Preservation and Conservation Group Committee.
Beth Werrett, ACR – Senior Conservator, an ICON accredited conservator who studied Conservation for Archaeology and Museums at UCL and has previously held posts at the Science Museum and The Wallace Collection.
Gabrielle Flexer – Conservator, who trained at Durham University and gained experience at the Manchester Museum. Gabrielle has been part of the Conservation and Museums Advisory Service since graduation and is currently working towards accreditation with ICON.
The South West Museum Skills programme is delivered by the South Western Federation on behalf of the South West Museum Development Partnership, funded by Arts Council England.
