Paddle Awards

Participants can progress through three levels, starting with the Start Award, advancing to the Discover Award, and ultimately achieving the Explore Award (Explore Award will be delivered separately). Each level is designed to build skills and confidence on the water, providing a comprehensive and structured learning experience.
Paddle Start
Your first time on the water ‘having a go’! A fun and enjoyable practical session, introducing you to paddlesport.
Paddle Discover
Taking you on the next steps towards becoming an independent paddler, for a fun and safe time on the water. Developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddling; developing your decision making and practical skills, giving you confidence on the water.
*Any craft can be used to complete the courses, and they are accredited and certified by British Canoeing
Paddle Awards Overview
Minimum age - 16 years *for this course (If you are interested in groups for 10+, please let us know.)
Duration -
Paddle Start and Paddle Discover will be combined and delivered in 2 parts: duration in total 6h
Prerequisites - No prerequisite

Paddle Start - Free (the number of available places is limited)
Paddle Discover - Free (only Paddle UK registration fee: £7) (the number of available places is limited) - every participant should register online and pay the registration fee for the Paddle Discover course on the Paddle UK portal; all information will be provided during the 1st part of the course.
Location:
1st part - in the canoe room, Umbrella Canoe Club (in our centre: Umbrella-Family Centre CIC/Umbrella Canoe Club, Penny Appeal Campus, Thornes Park, Wakefield, WF2 8QZ)
2nd part: on the water (Horbury Junction or Stanley Ferry or Fall Ings Lock - depending on the weather conditions)
Available dates (all dates are for the 1st part of the course, dates for the 2nd part will be provided for participants upon completion of the 1st part):
