Description

The QA Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) qualification has been designed in-line with the current Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements and is ideal for:

  • Those who have gained a level 2 or 3 childcare qualification and have entered into an early years setting and wish to be included in the staff to child ratios to comply with the EYFS requirements.
  • Anyone who cares for infants and children, such as parents, guardians, grandparents or those who have an involvement with infants and children and want to learn key paediatric first aid skills.

Newly qualified entrants to an early years setting who have completed a level 2 and/or level 3 qualification on or after 30th June 2016, must also have either a full paediatric first aid or an emergency paediatric first aid certificate within three months of starting work.

Accredited by Qualsafe. This course look at the treatment for paediatrics, (children up to the age of around 12 (though this is a guideline)

Course Title: QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

Course Duration: 1 Days (6 hours)

Course Content:

  • The role of responsibilities of a paediatric first aider.
  • Minimise risk and infection control
  • Completing Accident Forms
  • Definition of an infant and child for first aid treatment
  • When to use person al protection equipment
  • Scene Survey and Safety
  • Primary Survey on an infant and child
  • Identify when to call for help
  • Management of an Unconscious child or infant
  • Monitor an unconscious infant or child
  • Infant and Child CPR with correct use of an AED (Defibrillator)
  • Managing infant and child seizures
  • Managing blood loss and shock
  • Minor Injuries
    • Bites and stings
    • Cuts and grazes
    • Bumps and bruises
    • Small splinters
    • Nose bleeds
  • Choking (Partially or Completely blocked airway)
  • Burns and Scalds

Course Duration: 2 Days (12 hours)

  • The role of a Paediatric First Aider
  • Minimise risk and infection control
  • Completing Accident Forms
  • Contents of a Paediatric First Aid Kit
  • Safe use of first aid Equipment
  • Scene Survey and Safety
  • Casualty Vital Signs
  • Primary Survey
  • Management of an Unconscious Child
  • CPR
    • On a Baby
    • On a child with use of an AED (Defibrillator)
  • Control of Blood loss and Shock
  • Managing seizures
  • Minor Injuries
    • Bites and Stings
    • Smal cuts nd Grazes
    • Bumps and Bruises
    • Small Splinters
    • Nose Bleeds
  • Choking (Partially or Completely blocked airway)

The course will contain both theory and practical scenarios, these are designed to assist participants in their confidence in order to help them stay calm in situations that may arise.
