Paediatric First Aid (Ofsted compliant RQF) 1 day blended learning with home study

 

This is a one day blended learning course with some home study, to comply with the current Ofsted requirements.

 

The course is suitable for those working with children and infants. It will be of particular interest to teachers, childminders, crèche assistants, playgroup personnel and anyone else who has a responsibility for their welfare whilst in your care.

 

This course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and OFSTED.

 

This is a blended learning course which has two parts.

 

Part one - this is the online learning element of the course. It needs to be completed before the practical (socially distanced) face-to-face part of the course. Once you book the course, you will be sent a link to complete the online learning.

 

Part two - Part two of this course will take place on Friday 11 June 2021. This is the practical face-to-face element of the course where you get to practice the skills discussed in part one. You will need to attend this part of the training in order for the teacher to assess you skills and provide you with a completion certificate.

 

The price includes Ofqual regulated certificate valid for 3 years, training packs and manual.

 

Candidates should wear clothing suitable for practical activities and bring writing materials.

• Resuscitation (child, infants and adult protocols)

• Anaphylaxis

• Spinal injuries

• Choking (Child, infant and adult protocols)

• Asthma and diabetic emergencies

• Head injuries

• Extremes of hot and cold

• Shock

• Drowning

• Seizures

• Bleeding

• Burns

• Sprains, strains and fractures

• Poisoning, bites and stings

• Foreign objects

• Eye injuries

• Childhood conditions (e.g. meningitis an croup)

• Sickle cell anaemia.

 

Refreshments: Tea and coffee will be provided but not lunch. Due to COVID19, we would recommend everyone bring their own tea/coffee in a safe thermos.

Payment: Payments are made on-line in advance of the event taking place. You may attend the event without having booked and paid for the place you may be turned away from the event. It may be possible to make an online payment on arrival at the event to gain entry where places are available, but this facility cannot be guaranteed.

 

Timekeeping: Prompt time keeping is essential in ensuring a professional learning environment. Late-comers may be refused admission to the course/training event where entry may be detrimental to the learning of others.

 

Cancellation: If you are no longer able to attend the course, please notify us by email STEEPcontact@gmail.com, giving us at least 7 days notice. If you fail to do this your full course fee will be retained. In the event the organiser has to cancel or reschedule the event, your booking will be transferred to the next available date or a full refund provided.

 

Refund policy: Refunds will only be given if the attendee gives 7 days notice of non-attendance. After this time no refunds will be given.

 

Measures taken in relation to COVID19

The safety of you and our staff is of critical importance, and we will be ensuring everyone adheres to strict guidelines when completing your training.

 

Arrival

On arrival, we will check that all learners are well and anyone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms which are a new continuous cough and/or a temperature >37.8 degrees c and/or a loss of taste/smell - will be asked to leave immediately.

 

We will also check that no learner is in a situation where they should be self-isolating (e.g. a family member has had Covid19 symptoms, or the Learner should be shielding as they are in an at-risk group). If this is the case then the learner will be excluded from the course.

 

As everyone arrives we will asked them to thoroughly sanitise hands alcohol wipe/gel/sanitiser. We will instruct them that if they need to cough/sneeze this should be done into a tissue that is disposed of immediately. Failing that they should cough into a bent elbow (better than a bare hand) and NEVER cough/sneeze without covering their mouth/nose. If someone coughs on their hand or uses a tissue they should use alcohol wipes/sanitiser immediately.

 

We will ask everyone to cleanse their hands before, during and after all the practical sessions and when they return to the training room following breaks. We will explain clearly that no one should touch their mouth, nose or eyes unless they have just washed their hands or sanitised. Explain what you have available for sanitising hands (e.g. sanitising gel or alcohol wipes) and where they can wash their hands. All learners will be told that if they do develop symptoms during the course and within 2 weeks of attending the course they must inform EMT First Aid Training who will inform other learners on the course.

 

Each learner will be allocated a seat/table 2 meters away from each learner with their own training resources that they will wipe down with anti-sufractant wipes.

 

During the course

Everyone will need to maintain 2 meters physical distancing throughout the entire course.

 

There will be wipes and/or hand sanitiser available for all attendees and everyone will be asked to clean their hands, on arrival and regularly throughout the day. Especially prior to and after any practical elements. Everyone will receive a personal face shield to use during practical sessions.

 

Prior to CPR practise, we will explain to learners the protection that is in place to prevent infection during CPR practise.

 

We use Laerdal Manikins and replace the one-way air flow, valved lungs extremely regularly as per infection control advice. There are additional safety measures in place: One-way valves which stop air coming back out of the manikin mouth and direct expired air out of the back of the head via a filter.

 

We will use Alcohol/sanitising wipes to scrub the mannequins between learners (wipes forehead and chest and ensuring we allow the wipe to dry naturally). In addition we will deploy anti-surfactant wipes (e.g. Trionic wipes) after each session. The Trionic wipes are even stronger and remove any bio-film as well as killing any residual germs.

 

We have been advised that these steps alone are sufficient to prevent infection. This is all that is normally used on most first aid courses. The Health and Safety Executive and Consultant Microbiologists at NHS England have approved these measures as being sufficient to kill Covid19. However, in the current climate. We are also issuing each Learner with a personal CPR face shield to provide double failsafe protection. Learners should use the face-shield facing the same way up each time. Check that writing is the correct way up each time. They should nip the manikin nose as usual through the face shield. We will still use alcohol/sanitising wipes on the manikin between Learners even with a face shield. Trainers will always use as many manikins as possible to reduce sharing and where sharing of a manikin is needed it will be with one other all the way through the course to prevent the possibility of course-wide infection spread.

 

Alternative methods of infection control, such as individually issued manikins or manikin faces may be used. We follow the manufacturer’s guidance on disinfecting between classes. We dispose of the used lungs after the class and disinfect the faces following manufacturer’s instructions

 

Physical distancing of 2m should be maintained during CPR practise and the Learner should therefore act as a solo rescuer.

 

There are additional modifications concerning the practical elements of the course:

 

CPR

The HSE and DofE still require rescue breaths to be trained and assessed, we will let you know if this changes. We will therefore carefully follow the manikin hygiene procedures detailed above. Trainers will ensure that everyone is fully aware of the Resus UK guidance on performing real life CPR during the COVID-19 pandemic and the protective measures that should be taken.

 

Unconscious Casualty

The recovery position must be fully explained on a manikin using the 10 steps the trainer will teach the learners. The learners will then place themselves in the recovery position whilst explaining what they are doing.

 

Choking Casualty

The Learner will demonstrate back blows and the correct hand positioning for abdominal thrusts on a manikin.

 

Other practical elements

For most of the other practical elements, the learner will demonstrate on themselves to minimise unnecessary contact.

 

We will minimise the sharing of kit and equipment. If we need to share any equipment, we will thoroughly sanitise it before and after each use.

 

Where close contact is absolutely necessary and it is teaching and assessment related to a situation where a first aider would be expected to wear PPE, PPE must be used.
