About this event
Aimed towards Guy's and St Thomas' staff, and south thames network paediatric trainees and consultants , nurses and AHPs this immersive face to face day will include a mixture of presentations and workshops to further your understanding of palliative care in infants, children and young people.
We will be covering:
- What is Paediatric Palliative Care?
- What is a hospice?
- How do we talk about advanced care planning and resuscitation with children and families?
- How do we manage symptoms in children?
- How do we navigate ethical dilemmas?
- What do we need to do when a child dies?
There will be role play with a professional actor and facilitation by experts.
Day will include refreshments.
The course can help trainees gain competencies within the RCPCH Progress plus generic curriculum in the following domains:
Learning Outcome 1: Follows the principles of the law with regard to …. Death of a baby, child or young person
Learning Outcome 2: Understands principles of participation in decision making for children, young people and their parents.

Pre-course
1. Complete the pre-course questionnaire.
2. Read and familiarise yourself with the Advanced Care Plan document. This will form the basis for your role play with an actor on the study day.
