In this course Sheila will guide you through various techniques to help you develop some new techniques and ideas to apply to your artworks, as well as helping you improve your painting skills. Drawing boards or table easels are provided (depending on what we are doing each week).
Please bring an apron or wear clothes you don't mind getting messy! Avoid white jumpers/tops if possible! If you prefer using your own watercolour brushes and paints you are welcome to bring them along. Also please bring a small portfolio or bag to take your work home in (as it could be raining!)
WEEKLY SCHEDULE:
WEEK 1 - 25th August - Drawing plants & vegetables with Charcoal and Soft Pastels
In this class we will use charcoal and soft pastels to create fluid and expressive drawings on paper. Some fun warm up exercises to get familiar with the materials will be included.
WEEK 2 - 1st September - Monoprinting with Collage
In this class we will create line drawings of still life objects in the studio using monoprint techniques, printing on to papers we will prepare in advance incorporating collage elements.
WEEK 3 - 8th September - Linocut printmaking!
In a first for Sheila’s Art Classes we will be learning the technique of linocut printmaking! We will work on A6 size lino and cut images or patterns of our own design - please bring any reference images you’d like to work from: simple shapes work best when you are learning this technique. (In this beginner class we will focus on single colour prints.)
WEEK 4 - 15th September - Quick Portrait Drawing Techniques
In this class we will draw from a live model, creating quick watercolour and ink studies as well as pencil and watercolour drawings, to create lively expressive portrait sketches.
WEEK 5 - 22nd September - Watercolour Seaside Sketches
In 5, 10 and 15minute time periods we will create a series of small watercolour seascapes/seaside images (working from reference photos). This class should help you ‘loosen up’ your watercolour landscape technique and take the pressure off to create ‘perfect’ paintings. You can bring your own reference photos to this class if you would like to -print out at approx A5 size if you can.
WEEK 6 - 29th September - Still Life in Chiaroscuro - Red Chilli Peppers!
In this final class we will create a small acrylic still life painting of red chillies in chairoscuro (strong contrast between light and dark), painting on a pre-prepared small wooden panel.
