Event description

Description

We are delighted to announce the launch of the reopening of the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College in March and cordially invite you to our inaugural soft launch daytime openings on either Sunday 17 (10am - 5pm) or Thursday 21 March (10am - 4pm) with a complimentary ticket.

Book your place

This is an invite only event and we would urge you to book your preferred date and time slot by Friday 8 March as tickets will then be released to a wider audience.

  • To claim your place, register for your preferred day by inputting your unique code, supplied to you within your email invitation. Please note, your code is available for limited places as specified in the email.

  • Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email securing your place – we advise that you bring this with you on the day to help check you in.

The soft launch days are a great opportunity for us to test our new visitor experience and identify areas of improvement before we open to the general public. We will be welcoming your feedback following your visit via comment cards available on the day and an online feedback survey.

Please note that we are expecting a high footfall on the soft launch days and ask that you adhere to your selected date and time slot (morning or afternoon) in order for us to minimise overcrowding.

If you have never visited us before, you can find out how to get here on our website: www.ornc.org/how-to-get-here.

Grand opening 23 March

If you can’t make it on either of these days, don’t worry, we look forward to welcoming you when the Painted Hall officially reopens on 23 March 2019. You can book your ticket at www.ornc.org/booktickets, which gains you unlimited re-entry to the Painted Hall for a year.

About the Painted Hall

The Painted Hall has been referred to as the ‘Sistine Chapel of the UK’ – its vast decorated interior, extending to 4,000 square metres, is the masterpiece of English baroque art. A two year, £8.5 million conservation project, supported by a £3.1 million grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, has reversed years of decay and conserved the Painted Hall for generations to come.

Our reopening is part of a major transformation project that will also see the King William Undercroft reopen after a restoration project. Located beneath the Painted Hall, the grand space will now house a new café, shop and interpretation gallery, The Sackler Gallery, where Tudor remains have been unearthed and are on public display for the first time. The space will be open to view and use during the soft launch openings.

We look forward to welcoming you.
