Event description

Description

Discover the painted streets of Digbeth and Deritend on this epic 2.5-hour urban ramble weaving your way through its streets searching for hand-painted old ghost signs and the best street art in Birmingham. It's a guided walk and photo safari around the wonderful and curious streets taking place during the High Vis Street Culture Festival.

This is a historic part of the city connected to Birmingham's industrial past which after many years of neglect is rapidly changing. This walk provides a unique opportunity to take it its history at every step whilst considering the impact of new developments. The streets artist saw the potential of this area when others didn't and used its unique built environment as a canvas to paint or stick their evocative street art.

The walk starts on Bradford Street at 1 pm meeting by the street sign on the corner where it meets Warner Street opposite the Old Adam & Eve Pub. The walk takes around 2.5 hours and is mainly flat. Its suitable for people with good mobility due to the need to walk across a large urban area. It includes a short walk along the Fazeley canal towards Typho Basin.

The street art festival will be taking place at the same time with new artworks being created on the day as we walk through some of the streets near the Custard Factory.

The walk ends on Hack Street by the car park where there is an optional to have a drink and chat as a group in one of the local bars or pubs by the Custard Factory. You will be able to purchase refreshments and hopefully join us for a well-deserved drink (refreshments not included in tour price).

The walk takes place whatever the weather, flat shoes are recommended. Please note that some streets included on the walk will go through the main festival area.
